The City of Coral Gables, home to The Astor Companies’ luxury residential project Merrick Manor, is testing new resiliency measures that could protect its infrastructure during a major hurricane.
Coral Gables is collaborating with the University of Miami – located in close proximity to Merrick Manor – to integrate “smart energy micro-grids” that could provide necessary power to help first responders and other emergency personnel help those in need, according to the Coral Gables News. Two initial tests of the solar-powered micro-grids have been completed, and a simulation model is in the works.
If successful, the city and university would have created something that could be implemented in all parts of the nation and world that are impacted by hurricanes.
Astor Companies has given strong consideration to hurricane safety in the planning and construction of Merrick Manor. The company is going above and beyond to ensure Merrick Manor residents stay safe and connected in the event of a major storm.
Throughout hurricane season, the Merrick Manor team will share a series of blog posts and videos about the different features that make the project second-to-none when it comes to weathering a storm. Make sure to visit the project blog, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn pages so you do not miss any important updates.
