COASTAL SINKING STUDY SHOWS Benefits Of Inland Location Like Coral Gables

Local governments in coastal Miami are digesting a headline-grabbing University of Miami study that concluded 35 high-rise buildings located along Miami-Dade County’s barrier islands are sinking at a faster rate than expected.

The study, as reported by the Miami Herald, identified such buildings in Bal Harbour, Miami Beach, Sunny Isles Beach and Surfside. Town commissioners in Surfside vowed to convene about how to address this “elephant in the room,” as Surfside Mayor Charles Burkett described it. The high rises mentioned in the UM study account for tens of thousands of residents and tourists.

This could have major ramifications for the coastal Miami-Dade real estate market, as billions of dollars’ worth of real estate are located along the barrier islands.

In Coral Gables, owners at Merrick Manor do not have such concerns due to its inland location. The building is located on a property with significantly higher elevation than many other residential properties in Miami-Dade County. You cannot put a price tag on safety.

Merrick Manor is down to JUST ONE developer-owned condominium available for purchase. The developer of Merrick Manor is also making a limited inventory of parking spaces available for purchase at the condo building.

Located at 301 Altara Avenue, the 10-story, 227-residence Merrick Manor’s pet-friendly amenities and lifestyle truly cannot be beat. Merrick Manor is just steps away from the world-class Shops at Merrick Park and has a Zillow Walk Score of 77, making it “very walkable.”
