On the scene at

Merrick Manor’s groundbreaking

The Astor Companies broke ground on Merrick Manor Residences in Coral Gables nearly a year after being approved by the Coral Gables Board of Architects. The 10-story residential project, at 301 Altara Avenue, is across the street from the Village at Merrick Park. When completed, the Mediterranean-style development will have 227 units and nearly 20,000 square feet of retail space, according to a press release. Astor Companies paid $4.2 million for the site in 2012, according to Miami-Dade County property records. The privately held real estate development firm focuses on multifamily properties. It’s also building InTown in Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood. Coral Gables is in the midst of major development, with 40 commercial and residential projects, 2,700 residential units, 1.5 million square feet of office space and 740 hotel rooms in the works. – Katherine Kallergis and Sean Stewart-Muniz
