An Italian airline will offer a nonstop flight between the Milan-Malpensa Airport and Miami International Airport, becoming the second airline to launch at MIA this year.

Meridiana will launch four weekly nonstop flights between the cities starting June 8. Miami will join New York as one of the airline’s two U.S. destinations.

The announcement adds another passenger flight to MIA, which brought in seven new passenger airlines in 2017 — the most of any airport in the U.S., according to MIA. It also expands on the airport’s goal of becoming a hub for international travel.

“We appreciate Meridiana for choosing MIA to be part of its expansion into new markets this year,” said Miami-Dade Aviation Department Chief of Staff Joseph Napoli. “We gladly welcome their additional service to the popular city of Milan, as well as their connections to new destinations around the world.”

The airline will increase MIA’s service options to Italy, which includes nonstop flights to Milan by American Airlines and flights to Rome by Alitalia. The airport serves more than 288,000 passengers annually to and from Italy.
